Walter Edgar Malloy
14 May 1844 to 16 Jul 1899
Walter Edgar Malloy dropped out of a passing Alien Space Ship about 13 Dec 1864 into Bridgeport, Connecticut. There he stated he was from Monroe, Fairfield, Connecticut. He was 5’ 7 ¼ “ tall with hazel eyes and brown hair. He joined the Volunteer Army of the United States during the War of the Rebellion.
On the 24 Dec 1864 at New Haven, Connecticut he was mustered into the E 10th Reg’t of the Connecicut Infantry. He entered for the period of three years to substitute for F.D. Beardsley. At that time he said his occupation was a waiter, 22 years old and born in Ireland.
On 25 Aug 1865, he said he was still 22 years old. That would have been after his birthday in May. As far as his birthday goes he should have been 20 years old on 24 Dec 1964 and not 22. He also stated at different times that he was born in New York City, New Orleans, Louisiana and Ireland.
25 Aug 1865 finds Walter in Richmond, Virginia being mustered out of the service. On 30 Aug 1865 he received his last pay.
Where was he from then until 12 Jul 1866? (Visiting his home planet maybe?)
Walter enlisted on the 12 Jul 1866, and was assigned to Company E (looks like) 2nd Regiment of US Infantry. He was transferred to the 14th Infantry 31 Mar 1869 and discharged 12 July 1869 in Lebanon, Kentucky.
6 Aug 1869 Walter reenlisted and assigned to Co. I US Infantry. He was discharged at Fort Cameron, Utah 4 Aug 1874.
2 Dec 1874 Walter again enlisted and assigned to Co H 13th Infantry as a Sergeant. 21 Dec 1874 he was mustered in at New York City. He stated that he was born in New York City and was 26 years old. 5’ 10” with dark complexion, hazel eyes and dark hair. His occupation was listed as soldier.
Very strange again that he was only 26 years old when he was born in 1844 which means he should have been 30 years old.
3 Oct 1875 Walter was in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. One family story says he was entering the window of a house of prostitution and shot by a black person but in the official record it says he was attempting to enter the house of a Negro at Baton Rouge, Louisiana on the night of October 3rd 1875 and was shot in the leg. On 8 Feb 1876 he was discharged from Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
Somewhere I got the information that he lived around St. Louis, MO until 9 Mar 1881. This can’t be completely true because I found him on the 1880 Census living in Utah with Charlotte Larson Malloy’s Aunt Athalia Weight Gilbert. They were living in South Cottonwood, Salt Lake, Utah. I believe this was later called Murray. It has him listed as 28 years of age from Alabama. He says his parents were born in England on these census. He would have been 36 years of age at this time. Sounds like this is where Grandma Madge got her bad memory for her real age. LOL
His occupation was listed as laborer.
Walter married Charlotte Athelia Larson 9 Mar 1881 or so they say. There is a marriage certificate but no official record of the marriage. A George D. Pyper signed a statement that he was a witness to their marriage. It was signed 14 Aug 1899. This is with the records so she could get a widow’s pension. It was written on stationery for the Salt Lake Dramatic Association and he was the manager of the association. Could it of been in a play? (Tongue in cheek)
Now some say he was buried in the Murray, Salt Lake Cemetery. On the papers for Charlotte’s widow pension there is a sworn affidavit that he was interned by John P. McOrnie Sexton of the South Cottonwood Cemetery, Salt Lake County, Utah on the 18th day of July 1899. I believe that is called the Murray Cemetery today. I can find no other official record saying he was buried there. (I'll bet he went back to his home planet.)
Now for the biggest kicker!!!! On his military papers there is a small but very important statement: “Name not borne as Walter Edgar Malloy”. Now how do you interpret this? I say he was dropped off by an alien space ship and I’m sticking to my story until I get other proof.
